Infant amusements

Ever since Jon figured out how to open doors several weeks back, he’s taken great delight in letting himself in to watch whoever is in the shower.

He quickly discovers though that he cannot actually get into the shower cubicle (a well-placed adult toe wedged against the bottom of the door frame is sufficient to block him), and that leaves him at a bit of a loose end.  Once he’s done playing a baby form of blowfish against the shower’s glass door, he disappears off, pushing the bathroom door mostly closed behind him so that he can get past it.

While you might think you’ve seen the last of him for a while, in actual fact, he’s just gone off looking for some portable entertainment. In this case, the closest “toys” are a collection of old DVD jewel cases that live in a pile by my desk (initially used to provide baby distractions while I was using my PC).  Interestingly, he never looks any further.

A few minutes later Jon reappears, labouring to crawl and hold onto a DVD case at the same time (it’s complicated), and lays the case on the step before crawling off again.  This is repeated until the desired number of cases is on the step and then he plays out various scenarios of moving them around, usually until the person in the shower is done.

Later in the day, one swift adult movement sweeps up all the cases and deposits them back in their original home, all ready for the next day’s Sisyphean task. :)
