Smile of the month – June

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This photo was taken on a balmy June afternoon after all the adults had collapsed into chairs in the courtyard of the Halford Bridge pub, cold beverages in hand.  Jon was very pleased with himself after discovering the baby backpack lying near the table, and this picture captures his enjoyment rather well.

(As any regular reader will note, this post came in a little late for June, but -well- things have been busy with holidays, house guests and all, so I’ve just made a little adjustment to the publishing date to help the entries hang together.)

Happy birthday Jon!

To my precious little guy…

It’s been such a treat watching your progress this last year — and it has been a busy 12 months!

You’ve clocked up plenty of the big physical milestones: crawling, climbing, cruising, walking, while also bringing along the smaller-scale dexterity skills (using a spoon, switching off the oven timer, flicking lights on and off) in leaps and bounds!

I love seeing your growing comprehension of things I say, and the way your face lights up with pleasure when I ask you to do little things that I know you love to do, like fetching the mail, or opening a door.

You’re definitely not a baby any more – my chubby, easy-going little fellow has become a strapping toddler with a mind of his own in the last six months.  Still fairly laid-back about life generally, but with a much stronger sense of indignity when his will is thwarted!

I guess this is what they mean by the so-called “terrible twos”, and I’m sure that we’re going to butt heads over more than a few issues, but we’ll get through it!  You become more fun to be around with every day that passes, and I’m so looking forward to seeing more of your personality emerge as you put words to your expanding world.

Dear Jon, wishing you many happy returns!

Finished!

For those of you who feel that the bathroom renovation story (started here and was updated here) is dragging on a little – and it did! – the good news is that it’s all done now.  (Actually it was all done about 2 weeks ago, but this is the first chance I’ve had to write it up.)

The bath panel which I was lamenting in the previous post, was redone over the course of a day.  And to everyone’s profound relief, this time around the artisans concerned were able to correct the earlier inadequacies most admirably. :)

That left only a few outstanding items, the main one of which was the fitting of the counter-top for the basin unit. (This ended up a bit less cream-coloured than I’d anticipated based on the online catalogue, but overall I think it works.)

So, *contented sigh*, we can finally settle down and enjoy our revamped bathroom space, having successfully ticked off all the annoyances with the previous bathroom.  Yee-ha.

These little pics don’t really do it justice, but you can find the full set of photos (from start to finish) here, if you’re really interested.

We think it’s great. :)
